Finding her voice and chasing her dreams.
Makenzie is currently studying in the Music Program at Alesco, where she is working hard to build the skills she will need to one day perform on stage.
Thanks to a $2000 Grow a Star scholarship, Makenzie’s dream is now a little closer. She recently joined Luke, who represents Grow a Star for Home in Place, on a trip to Muso’s Corner in Charlestown to pick out her brand new electric guitar. She chose a beautiful Fender, along with an amp, stand, strap, and bag.
“Makenzie’s passion and dedication to her music truly capture the spirit of Grow a Star, seeing her confidence and creativity grow has been incredibly rewarding,” said Luke.
Makenzie is already a talented acoustic guitar player, but she is ready to take things to the next level. With her new electric guitar and some upcoming lessons, she is excited to start performing and writing more music.
“This scholarship has opened doors I never thought possible. I can now take lessons, perform more, and focus on building my skills,” Makenzie said.
“Grow a Star has given me the encouragement to keep going — it has helped me turn a passion into a real opportunity,” she said.
Makenzie’s mum, Rachel, is her biggest supporter.
“I am so super proud of Makenzie and I cannot wait to see her grow and chase her dreams, music and playing guitar was something her and her dad bonded over and played together, since his passing last year it has been something that Makenzie has been able to continue and makes her feel close to him still,” she said.
Her goal is to one day be in a band or performing her own gigs. With the support of her family behind her, Makenzie is well on her way to making that dream a reality.
