Ride for the Stars 2024 kicked off in Newcastle on Friday 8th March 2024 with a team of nine departing McDonald Jones Stadium around 8.00am.
The crew travelled through Broke, Jerry’s Plains, Bylong, Rylestone, Kandos, Sofala and Wattle Flat, with the final destination on Day 1 being Bathurst.
On Day 2 the team covered 460km starting with a lap around Mount Panorama, before heading to Hill End, an historic gold mining town just outside of Bathurst. Hill End owes its existence to the New South Wales gold rush of the 1850s, and at its peak in the early 1870s it had a population estimated at 8,000 served by two newspapers, five banks, eight churches and twenty-eight pubs. It now has a population of approximately 40 people. Other towns visited on Day 2 included Gulgong, Coolah and Currububula before stopping in Tamworth for the night.
Day 3 saw the riders commence their final leg from Tamworth through Wallabadah, Scone, Aberdeen, Singleton and finally back home to Newcastle.
With 1100km travelled overall, it has been a successful event with beautiful weather, spectacular regional locations and all of the riders coming together for the cause.
We would like to thank the riders and their donors for their contributions to this event. We cannot raise important funds like this without the support of the community and we are extremely grateful for this support.
Proceeds from the event will assist young people living with disadvantage in our community, to overcome the social and financial barriers that might be preventing them from achieving their educational, sporting or artistic pursuits.
Special thanks to the Ride for the Stars major event sponsor Hall and Wilcox and Support Vehicle Sponsor Tetris Capital.
Special thanks to Justin Worboys Photography for donating his time and energy to the cause and for capturing all the action on the road.
Our riders’ fundraising pages will remain open for a few more weeks so that everyone has an opportunity to finalise their campaigns.
The general donation page is also still open, with the link provided below.
